    Memories of Mannix

Mannix was the last series from DESILU Studios before Paramount's take over in 1968. the late Gail Fisher an African American actress was cast as Peggy Fair (a break from the sterotypical role of maids and servants). Joe's personal secratary who took a job with Joe Mannix after her husband and Joe's Army buddy from Korea was killed in the line of duty.

I also like the Chrysler cars used on the show, and the jazzy theme song by Lalo Shifrin (who did Mission: Impossible)

    Re: Memories of Mannix

This show was inadvertantly hiliarious. Mike Connors really had down that greasy-haired, bad-clothes look typical of middle-aged tough-guy wannabes of that era. His Afro Sista assistant was pretty hot, but she did little more than serve as token windowdressing, which was commonplace in the more liberal and guilt-ridden social consciousness back when ("Julia, " "Room 222" and others employed the same tepid attempts at "inclusion").

The characters drove around, usually aimlessly, in gas-guzzling Chrysler dinosaurs, which was to be expected, given that petrol went for about . 27/gallon in the early Super70s. The plots were so mundane and predictable they were truly amusing: you could figure out the denouement of the story after watching the first five minutes of the episode. I'll say one thing for this show, however: it was one of the most violent programs ever aired by a network in prime time, which added greatly to its appeal.

I suppose this is supposed to be contrasted with the "conservative and guiltless lynching and war mongering consciousness" that both preceeded it and is found in red states today.

Re: Memories of Mannix : The "Brady" Blooper

I have only seen one episode of Mannix, the last one! When John Ritter passed away in '03,TV land ran the episode titled "Hardball" from  April 1975. I just totally lost it when I realized that The house Ritter's character & wife lived in,was none other than the Brady Bunch's living room & staircase! Big Smile [:D] The Brady Buch had gone off the air 1 year and 1 month before the airing of this show. It was decorated with diferent furniture but it didn't help. There's no mistaking "that" house! Hee hee!! What a blooper!

P.S. : The Brady House was used one more time (on an unrelated TV show). The X-Files second to last show takes place in part,in the Brady's home. Sems some guy can actually 'conjur" up fictitious places or such.
