Memories of Here Come the Brides

The music was what I liked best. It just lifted your heart to hear(was it Perry Como?) singing the opening song. And Bobby Sherman had lots of singing as well. I also think the episode where Biddy confessed her lesbian desires for Candy was very liberating.

Re: Memories of Here Come the Brides

In the years '68 to '70 I was a young teenage boy, who was starting to deal with his sexuality. Bobby Sherman's great good looks, confirmed to me that I loved men. I use watch "Here Come the Brides" every week, just to see gorgeous Bobby Sherman. Please, please rerun this TV serious! Today I'm a middle aged gay man, still getting hot over Bobby Sherman and his music.

Re: Memories of Here Come the Brides

This was the show that changed my life - as it did so many other young ladies. My favorite episode is of course "Road to the Cradle." I enjoyed watching the characters struggle with the dilemmas presented and the dialogue that allowed me to learn more about their past.. sigh so good .. of course by today's standards maybe bland, but so very good. Even in my memory reruns.

Re: Memories of Here Come the Brides

My favorite childhood memories revolve around Here Comes The Brides. My favorite show would be the very first episode. Jason Bolt has promised to get his men Brides and he heads off for Boston Massachusetts. This is where Candy Pruitt meets Jeremy Bolt and they start to fall in love. Jeremy: " I stttuttterr..." Candy: "I bite my nails." These were role models, they made the roles romantic, and the characters strong. They protrayed different controversial areas that the late 60"s and early 70"s television shows avoided. As a child it brought an interesting tale and a bit of history. It is true that there were Brides that were brought out to Washington from the east, Boston being one of the places, I doubt if the Bolt Brothers were the ones to bring them out to Seattle, but it is nice to hear the stories. Arron Stemple was the town lawyer who gave the Bolt Brothers grief. Lottie was the town"s barkeeper. Clancy was the captain that brought supplies and the brides to the town. The scent of pine trees in the air, never knew a day so fair...

Don"t really know what caused me to think about this great old show today, but ended up here, and these stories are FAAABulous! I, too, was a future gay youngster and thought Bobby Sherman was IT! But also loved Bridget Handley. Favourite female character, tho, had to be Lottie! What a hoot. Trivia question...what actor played oldest brother, Jason?

Re: Memories of Here Come the Brides

Many of my core values were shaped and impacted by this show. Jason Bolt (Robert Brown) often had to struggle with his ideals and morality and did it in a way that revealed so much about the inner struggle of all people who strive to live a real or meaningful life. I could always count on Jason to have something to say that was inspirational or personally challenging. They don't make them like that anymore. Does anyone know if it is possible to get the show on tape or DVD? I never see it being run on television, and I sure do miss it.

Re: Memories of Here Come the Brides

The show was good for its time, however, Bridget Hanley was TERRIBLY mismatched as Bobby Shermans love interest. I mean, come on, here is this shy kid, and this total feminist of a woman always making him look stupid, that was a downer! She really belonged with Jason. She was certainly OLD enough to be with Jason, way older than Jeremy. The show was inconsistent, and unbelievable. That mountain went "up" more times than the USA flag at a baseball game!

Re: Memories of Here Come the Brides

I just loved this show, especially the chemistry between Jeremy and Candy. Actually, thinking back I don't remember them ever marrying, but I thought they were so good together. I did think that the sets were pretty bad and not alot of money was spent on them. Now, after watching a show about female doctors, I can see what they were trying to do with the show. They tried to show how it was for these women to come to an unknown area and want to get married but also not be taken for granted.

Re: Memories of Here Come the Brides

I grew up north of Seattle in a small logging community. We had pictures of old logging camps and lumber yards littered about our home. It was always interesting to watch the Bolt Brothers in action and compare. While the actors were on a back lot in Burbank shooting the series, family, friends and neighbors were living the real thing. I was only 10 but held a great appreciation for the series. Favorite character was Candy. She had great hair and got to date Jeremy. What more could you as for.

Re: Memories of Here Come the Brides

You could not have been a 12 year old girl in the Super70s, watched this series and not have fallen in love. For most of us, it was probably our first fantasy romance beyond the boy in school. Obviously the most excting couple was Jeremy and Candy, but all the cast memebers had romantic tragedy's and triumphs just as heartfelt. Romance aside, this was a show that portrayed the women of Seattle as strong, brave, proper and self reliant. Every single one of them came from New England to look for a husband, but none of them ever settled for anything less than true love. What a contrast to today's young girls who are far more willing to comprimise their morals and self esteem in the name of love. The men were equally as wonderful. Strong, dashing, honest, brave and perhaps most unique, vunerable. Week after week, I'd root for Jeremy and Candy to get together, laugh at Biddy's antics, marvel at the strong willed Jason and wish Lottie was my mother. I wanted to live in that time. I wanted to climb Bridal Viel mountain. I wanted Jeremy to sweep me off my feet. For one hour a week, I wanted to be a bride.
