Of course, being a classical musician, my favorite McCloud episode is "Fifth Man in a String Quartet." So often, people that don't know classical musicians portray them as demanding eccentric nuts, and some of us ARE! But here the musicians were portrayed sensitively as real people and McCloud treated them with respect, not patronizingly.
To say I am a fan of the series is an understatement. I've taped every episode from TV except the pilot, which is rarely shown. The episodes shown nowadays are heavily cut. When I left New Orleans for Houston in
1986, New Orleans television was still showing the uncut episodes. I'd love it if Universal were to issue the complete uncut series, pilot and sequel on DVD, but so far nothing.
By the way, few fans of the series may know that Dennis Weaver made a final "last hurrah" appearance as himself filming a episide of McCloud on The Nancy Drew Mysteries. Amusingly, the villain was the actor who played Peter B. Clifford!
