Had to watch these in school!

Too funny! We still had the pleasure of watching these horrible reels in my class in 1991!

Yes, I fondly recall watching these films in grade school during the Super70s. They were hokey, but so much better than doing classwork. Teachers would show these films on nutritional eating, then use study guides to follow up the lessons. I wish I still had my workbook, what a hoot that would be! What really sticks in my head are the songs. Each film had at least two or three in addition to the theme song. If I'm recalling correctly, Mulligan was one of a bunch of kids who formed a "gang" called Mulligan Stew. Does anyone else remember this song? "Fat foods and fad diets - are bad for you, so don't try it. They'll slow you down (slow you down) and that is why they're no good for yoooou."

I remember that 4-4-3-2 song mainly. We watched these films in elementary school in 78. I can't imagine watching this in the 90's!?! It looked dated in 78!
I remember some goofy guy in glasses and a bunch of kids. Man, that was a long time ago.

Re: Had to watch these in school!

Talk about painful, this tripe was being forced into us while we were sentenced to Barrets Elementary in Manchester, Mo. We were 11, but even we knew this was garbage. Our complaints fell on deaf ears and we were subjected to this "show" for weeks at a time. It was so bad that we even had to sing the songs in music class. I rewrote the words --- using all the wit a sixth grader could muster --- to some that were more entertaining. Our quick witted music teacher only realized we weren't singing the correct words when the class brownnose gave us up. I hope my kids never are forced to endure a "hip" kids' education tool like "Mulligan Stew."

Re: Had to watch these in school!

When I was in fourth grade we watched the Mulligan's Stew films. I loved, loved, loved them. I get warm fuzzies just thinking about those films. Over the past few decades (twenty years) I have thought on and off about buying those films.

A small tidbit-- When I was in fourth grade we also did a play for the entire elementary school on nutrition (Samuel Bowles School in Springfield, MA) in which we sang a few song from the films. My teacher Ms. Dougherty even rewrote some of the word to the song "Alice's Restaurant" (from the movie of the same name), and tacked on part of the show. But I digress. The play that we performed, based on "Mulligan Stew", was my acting debut. I am not a famous actor or anything, but I did study acting at college. I know that "Mulligan's Stew" gave me the acting bug.

I too remember having to watch this in elementary school. It haunts me to this day. Growing up in rural Canada, I had now idea this was an actual TV show until I found this page. We didn't get any American stations and I don't think any locals would have carried it. ugh! yes it was even dated back in the late Super70s. But I thought it was better than being forced to square dance in music class. . . . not cool for a 10 yr. old KISS fan!

Re: Had to watch these in school!

I thought I must have been crazy because no one ever remembered watching this in grade school in the late Super70s, not even my classmates I still keep in touch with. I have searched high and low for any shred of evidence that Mulligan Stew ever existed.

I used to watch it in grade school on an old two wheel projector. I didn't really enjoy it, per say, but it did give us a break from math or social studies. Inevitibly, the film on the projector would get tangled up and our teacher would always have to stop the show and feed the film back into the feeder. I don't think I ever saw that show all the way through with out a projector mishap.

What I remember about this show involved this man running around with about 5-6 kids. He was ignorant of what a balanced diet was (and most other things), and the kids always educated him, or something like that. The kids were always on a play ground or something hanging upside down from monkey bars.

    Thank you Super70's. . . . . . I didn't imagine this out of thin air afterall.
