These were usually pretty good stories. I particularly liked an episode or two where Howard Duff was the guest star. Also Robert Forester had a good role or maybe more. It's been so long ago, I can't remember too much of the actual stories.

This is truly one of the best true to life Police shows, ever on TV. When I was a kid growing-up in the late 60's and Super70s we didn't have real life TV show, like COPS, Real Police Videos ect.. We had TV shows like Dragnet,1 ADAM 12 and yes POLICE STORY. These show gave us kids the insite to the life of a POLICE OFFICER. Not just the job he did, but to there personal lifes. These shows made us aware, POLICE OFFICERS didn't make the most money,live in the best house on the block, drive the hotist cars and get the hotest women. Those shows gave us a leson that the POLICE are human. The POLICE shows on today don't hold a candle to POLICE STORY.

Joe's stories were so riviting, filled with humanity and the absurdity of trying to keep the peace in the inhumane world of both criminals and the LAPD management. I would get lost in these stories for 60 minutes or for days in his paperbacks. His bazar tails of life and death saved me and temped me to join the LAPD. I wish I could find these episodes on VHS or DVD. I would buy every one.

Prior to "POLICE STORY" I had never seen a realistic Police docu-drama, although I didn't know it at the time. I became a city cop in California in 1964, but the "Joe Friday" superman image I had of what the work was all about cost me jobs in 4 agencies in a little over 5 years. Thank God that the pay & benefits were so lousy back then that I never had much trouble getting hired by another department. It took me years to mature and unlearn all of the junk that movies and t. v. had taught me about being a police officer. I wish I had read Joe Wambaugh's books or had seen "Police Story" before I ever started on the street. It sure would have been an influence on my early disaster of a career. "Stigma" with Mike Connors and Martin Milner (et. al. ) was my all time favorite. From the time of the suspect's moving violation to the end of the movie I was "living" the action and sharing the pain. I retired 3 years ago but I still wish that I could see the "Police Story" series again; especially "Stigma". If any of you over-the-hill retirees want to swap war-stories I am ten87 at msn.com.
