    Memories of The Rookies

I have always been a fan of The Rookies fan, and am find watching the Super70s show in re-runs today as entertaining as watching the original runs almost 30 years ago. The chemistry and friendship between the characters is something you don't see much of in today's shows. The writing and stories were excellent as well as interesting. Definitely one of my favorite shows of all times!

    Re: Memories of The Rookies

Nice Super70s era cop show. The understated acting was a standout. Gerald S. O'Loughlin starred as the sergeant, with Michael Ontkean ('Slap Shot'), Sam Melville (who'd played quite a few heavies in tv Westerns) and George Stanford Brown as his charges. 'The Rookies' was a study in contrasts as age and race (Ontkean, who's white, and Brown, who's black, were partners) were just some of the differences constantly being overcome to create an extended family among the main characters. Melville's tv wife was a pre-Charlie's Angels Kate Jackson, and their characters, Mike and Jill Danko, became surrogate parents to the two bachelors as all three cops struggled to retain their idealism. Brown went on to a career as a director, and was also married to actress Tyne Daly ('Cagney and Lacey').

    Re: Memories of The Rookies

The Rookies was my all time favorite. I remember looking forward to Mondays which was a major feat because I was in 7th grade and hated school. There was great chemistry between the actors. I hope that it will soon be released on DVD. It continues to have a big fan base.

    Re: Memories of The Rookies

I was 12 years old when The Rookies first came on the air and I've been an avid fan since. Mike and Jill were my favorites on the show and to this day I think the late Sam Melville was always the best looking actor ever. I never actually saw the show in color because we had a black and white tv back then and I was never able to catch any of the episodes when it ran on tvland. Hopefully it'll come out on DVD soon. I can't understand why it hasn't yet. Anyway, it has and always will be my favorite tv show. They don't make shows like that anymore!

    Re: Memories of The Rookies

I loved "The Rookies" and even had the Die Cast Patrol Cars from the show. Today, I host a Part-
Time Radio Talk show, Sunday Nights 5pm-7pm (Central Time) That has four different themes all
month-but the Second week each month, is "EMERGENCY! Services Radio" About Cops, Firemen and Paramedics, and we talk A LOT about the great Shows of that Era, Like "The Rookies". This Past Sunday Night, I Interviewed (By Phone) Randolph Mantooth-"Johnny Gage" from EMERGENCY! His being on my show, was even posted on his website and brought several Call-Ins from all over the country!

Check out My Website and you can hear my show, 5-7pm Central Time, Sundays. I now hope to contact the stars of "The Rookies", to have them on the show, as well as folks like Steve Forrest (S. W. A. T. ), and Larry Wilcox or Erik Estrada (C. H. i. P. S. ). I just got Season One of EMERGENCY! And already had Season One of S. W. A. T. , I have A LOT of Episodes of C. H. i. P. S. on VHS, and have the only existing Season of "Blue Thunder" On DVD, that I picked up on EBAY, So, now I REALLY hope we can get "The Rookies" On DVD. I should have Taped it,  when TV-Land played it a couple years ago.
