    Memories of Ghost Story

This was one of my favorite shows growing up. I watched it every friday night during the time it was on TV. My Mom worked at night, stayed at home with Dad and I remember Mom would bring me McDonalds hamburgers about the time the show was to start, which I think was 9:00pm Eastern Standard Time. Only a few shows come to mind thought, it has been so long....

There was the one where a man and woman dug themselves up from a grave in a dirt floor quansit hut garage to avenge their murder with the person who lives there.

The was the one about the girl and the merry go round, don't remember the point of it.

The ghost of the lady that came out from the lake at the end of a pier.

The "Concrete Captain" who was harpooned into the beachfront and then had concrete poured on him, who longed for his love and thought a living lady was his long lost love, and she left her real life love to join him... OOooo, that was errie.

I miss the show and would like it to come back to "Nick @ Nite"!
    Hint Hint!

    Re: Memories of Ghost Story

Ah the Super70s… I watched this show when I was 11, so this show is classic creepy television for me.
Though I have a good memory, my recollection of this obscure and short-lived show and it's episodes are vague, but I remember enjoying it. The only memory I have is an episode with Patricia Neal standing in the middle of an empty highway, something about being on the road to oblivion. That was the first time I heard the term oblivion, so it sticks out. For some reason I thought this was part of a series called "Circle of Fear"; upon internet investigating it turns out the show was one in the same, with the title changing at some point.

    Re: Memories of Ghost Story

In 1972, when I was 8 the television show Ghost Story made a huge impact on my psyche. It aired at 10PM on Friday nights and I think it was an oversight by my father that I was even permitted to watch it. My parents were generally uptight and I was overly sensitive. One night at our best friend's house, again remember I was only 8, there was an episode we watched on a small black and white set that fascinated and terrified us so much that we were afraid to get up and change the channel. Now, I can't really convey what it was about except there were like twin sisters maybe, and the ghost of one was seen outside this one time while the wind was blowing leaves around. And this guy saw it in a mirror reflection. That's almost all I remember, except it freaked me out.

Later, my parents wouldn't let me watch it, at times. But I saw other episodes. I loved it, in a dark way. I'm kind of really just fascinated by a small memory of an old tv show right now. For some reason, it would be so intriguing NOW to watch this series again! If I see it again I'll freak out!! It's like a Circle Of Fear.

    Re: Memories of Ghost Story

I remember the show as "Circle of Fear". I was around ten or twelve years old. For some reason our parents let us watch this show. My mother was religious and I was easily creeped out. Even my younger sister remembers watching.

My absolute favorite show in the series was about a family finding a buried suitcase where a house was torn down maybe next door. Inside was a horse on a base with wheels. Creepy things happened in the house and the horse got bigger and bigger and eventually threatened the lives of the family. They found old photos of a matching horse and realized this one wanted its mate or play buddy. At the end of the flick they tricked the horse as it was kicking in the door. It shrank back to size and all was well, or was it?

The first one I saw was about a young lady witch who inhabited a statue or mirror and sang to a woman living in a house, newlyweds, maybe. I don't remember much more, but it was creepy.

Jodie Foster was in the one about the doll house and grandpa and the doll cookies. She had powers and controled everyone through the doll cookies acting out in the doll house. Everything burned at the end because the doll house caught on fire. Very creepy.

There was the one where the man killed his wife and buried her outside in the shed and she appeared in the tv digging her way out of the grave. Unfortunately we got too creeped out and had to turn it off.

There was one about some artist and some funny sculptures or jars and the building they were using. I think it burned or the sculptures came to life at the end. My cousin and I were terrified after this one.

Yes, the lady that killed her husband and backed her head into a nail in the wall, just like all the butterflies pinned by her husband. Very cool ending.
I want to see this on tv!! At least some DVD or Video releases, come on, this show rocked!

    Re: Memories of Ghost Story

I used to watch this series late in the Super70s and used to be so scared. I remember one episode roughly about a woman was a secretary getting phone calls at her office. At first they wouldnt speak and around the 3rd call he said is a deep long whispering voice Barrrrrrrrrrrr baraaaaaaaaa. Well from that point on my hairs stood up on my arms L*. It was a Friday afternoon so Barbara was leaving work uneasy and going to her car in the car park. History had it that Barbara's boyfriend was a soldier missing in action and his best friend ( as I roughly remember ). I remember Barbara ending up at her parents weekender somewhere in the woods by a lake. She made the house and go in and all you could hear was old army boots walking outide around the house.

Well, (by this time my pillow was up around my face) LOL*. I remember she tried to ring out from the phone and as she picked it up the voice again said Barrrrrrrrrr baraaaaaaaa Im coming for you. She ends up running through the woods and ends up in a small jetty by the lake and then out from the water an old dark hard grabs onto the jetty and makes his way out of the water. Apparently this is the ex boyfriends best friend who was also missing in action coming back to get Barbara. I think they were all very very close young. As she screams and panicks towards the water he grabs her and they both fall in. Suddenly her ex-bf's hand comes out of the water and grabs the best friends foot and drags him back towards the water and basically saves his g. f from the dead bestfriend. Like I said this series was so scary I will never ever forget it and I would love to get all the series if possible on DVD.

    Re: Memories of Ghost Story

I can't believe I found this site about Circle of Fear. I was 8 and 9 years old when it aired and like many other posters here I don't remember a lot of detail but I remember how terrified and fastenated at the same time I was. When I mention it to some people they don't really remember it, it may be the impressive age we were when we watched it. I thought there was an episode where (it's vague) a husband was caught cheating perhaps and his wife buried him in concrete in the garage floor with just his face sticking out. Does anyone recall that or am I mixing up horror shows?

    Re: Memories of Ghost Story

I remember some episodes of this show. The toy horse one in particular. That one's stayed with me all these years. I remember toy horses of any kind freaked me out for awhile! Haha! But hey, being born in '67 I was about 4 or 5. I vaguely remember one about these glass jars these people find. Weird stuff starts happening they start disappearing or something like that. . I remember the one bout the Tv thats shows dead people clawing out of the ground and the one where a girl looks into a closet door but instead sees outside. Someplace where it's snowing and a man is cutting wood with an axe! Creeepy! Mostly I just remember fragments because I was so young, but it definitely left an impression!

    Re: Memories of Ghost Story

I was 8 when Ghost Story came out and looked forward to watching it every week- 2 of my favorites:

My all time favorite was called "Half a Death" (I only know the title from doing a little internet research) which was about a girl named Christina whose dead twin(Lisa) comes back to haunt her. From what I can remember, she visits her parents house and they tell her about her twin who was either sickly or deformed (I can't remember which).

I do remember the wind kicking up violently all of a sudden in the back yard and then the voice of the ghost calling out to her- "Christiiinaaa!" Then the ghost appeared in a white shroud- very creepy! In another scene, Christina goes to the cemetary to visit her sisters grave and when she turns back to look, sees an open casket with either her or her dead sister in it!

Towards the end, when they showed a close up of the ghost I remember running away from the TV because I was too afraid to look!

My other all time favorite was "The Concrete Captain"- about a sea captain whose was harpooned then covered in cement which became a grave by the ocean. A couple who moved into their house soon became haunted by both the sea captain and his girlfriend/wife. The one part I found really scary was when the girl who moved in held up a hand mirror to look at herself and when she tilted it to the side saw the female ghost standing right behind her!

It's great to read all these commentaries- some of them helped jar my memory of episodes long forgotten. It seems that most are from people my age that share the same favorites!

I saw re-runs of the series about 10 yrs ago on one of the cable channels and still found them to be quite creepy even though I was older. If they ever come out on VHS or DVD I would appreciate it if someone would contact me!

    Re: Memories of Ghost Story

Even the reruns terrified me. I remember breaking out in tears watching the two corpses dig themselves out of the tool shed.

I recently purchased the entire series on DVD and am in the process of watching all the episodes. The complete set is available, but it hasn't been officially released. The episodes have been taped from television and copied onto DVD.

I purchased my copy on eBay for under $50.
