Glen Campbell was one of the most gifted country singers that hit it big during the 60s/Super70s. Most people that I knew back then loved both his show and music. It was one of the great family-oriented shows from that era that was enjoyed by people of all ages, from kids to seniors. He always had lots of talented guests on his weekly series, and I will always fondly remember the Glen Campbell Goodtime Hour as one of my all time favorite variety shows.

Another of the variety shows that seems to have gone the way of trading stamps and cheap health insurance. But my favorite regular on the show wasn't Glen Campbell, it was good ol' Jerry Reed way before the Smokey and the Bandit days.

I have always appreciated the music of Glen Campbell, I have been a fan of his since 1967, I have seen him in Branson had a front row seat two years ago when he came to Kansas City I had a front row and even in 1969 while stationed briefly at Fort Dix New Jersey I was able to take in his LIVE lp session. The man is truly a genius and thanks to the Smothers Brothers Tom & Dick and for the late John Hartford for helping Glen be the man he is today, Tom & Dick for the invite on their show and to John writing Gentle on my Mind without this recording you really have to scratch your head. Where would we be without a Glen Campbell?

I was a Smothers Brothers fan when I was a kid, so I enjoyed their variety show. When there was nothing on during the summer, I was forced to watch "The Summer Brothers Smothers Show" or Glen Campbell, if you will. I can't say I was a great fan (actually, I wasn't a great fan of the variety show format), but I suffered through it that summer. It's interesting to see how many people on this site that loved the series. It was certainly good-natured and fun, but all that singing and no comedy skits for an hour killed it for this ten year old.
