    Memories of Immortal

This was a series that was all too short-lived. It was a chase-show, and in that regard, it didn"t differ from several other chase-shows that have been a staple of network TV for decades. The Immortal had an unusual premise though that distinguished it from other shows of the same ilk; the hero was being chased because he had super-human blood that was coveted by the bad guys. The villians were forever trying to come up with unique ways to catch and subdue the hero, actor Christopher George. One of my favorite episodes was one where the main villain, named Fletcher, slipped the hero a "mickey". It wasn"t by the usual way of a drink, but by, much to the hero"s dismay, a towel that Fletcher had given him to dry his sweaty face with after catching him. That episode was a perfect example of how you never knew quite what to expect from the series, and it always kept me on my toes as a viewer. Too bad I haven"t seen the Immortal broadcast in syndication anywhere! It out-shined many adventure shows, both past and present.

    Re: Memories of Immortal

The show had a fantastic pilot airing on the old ABC 90 minute Tuesday Night Movie. This lead to a "need' to see a series. However, the show was cutoff & cancelled right as it seemed to be gaining some momentum.

In the show, Ben Richards was looking for his brother, who also may have had the rare blood the evil ones desired. (Kind of like another ABC show of the period, The Guns of Will Sonnet, where a dad (Walter Brennan) looked for his wrongfully accused, gunfighter/robber son.) Anyway, The Immorrtal was cancelled and Chris George died young, soon thereafter, killing any hope for a revival or reunion.

Several interesting shows came out of this weekly ABC movie slot, most short lived. The Delphi Bureau, Tribes, maybe we'll be able to see some of these again, but likely not as the "profits" aren't there for the big boys!

    Re: Memories of Immortal

The Immortal had the best car chases of any show of the time. I used to tape the car chases and music. We would play them back when we were racing our HO Scale slot cars. I still have the reel to reel tapes somewhere.

My favorite line in the series, "Can we really catch an ambulance?" "Ambulances make a lot of noise but they don't go all that fast."

As a kid I never really thought about that until just then. I think of that line every time I see an ambulance racing somewhere. Besides Ben Richards was driving a Big Block Dodge Challenger, you can bet he caught up to the ambulance for the rescue.

    Re: Memories of Immortal

For years I thought I was the only one who ever watched the show. I would ask people my own age about it, and they wouldn't remember it. I was always interested in automobiles, even at an early age. That show always had great car chases. I later decided to be an auto mechanic for a living. That show may have had something to do with it. I wish that I could see the show on a regular basis, even though there are probably noy enough episodes for a very long re-run schedule.

    Re: Memories of Immortal

I really enjoyed the Immortal series during the early Super70s and could not understand why it was so short lived. It was on the same line as the Fugitive, another show I enjoyed growing up with, but thoght The Immortal was so much better.
