    Favorite episodes of Lucan

My Favorite LUCAN Show was the pilot. In this opening episode you understand how Lucan was rasied by Wolves, found by hunters at age ten and taken to a research center where he was taught about coping in human society. Granted you had to truely like this LUCAN show to find it at all interesting but being autistic it really explained things to me in ways nothing I had experienced before or since. The unique concept of this show and the fresh unpolished acting style of newly duscovered Kevin Brophy in his introductory effort as star of this short lived TV Series gave the ahow a certain reality.

Lucan while it had many flaws if you take its Boy raised by Wolves living among men premise seriously did successfully evoke a primal innocence in most aspects of the show. The show lost it only in the fact that the kid raised by Wolves was way too acculturated. Lucan was far too comfortable and in synch with all the subtle unwrittn commandments of interacting in human society on all levels. The total unrealistic ease Lucan had in almost all social situations he faced might not have been noticable to most but to an autistic dude who knows from life experience just how hard it is to understand human nature I saw that as the single most glaring flaw which always kept Lucan a fantasy not a science fiction type show.

What Kevin Brophy as Lucan did well especially in the first episode was to explain the joy of what it was to be most human. As an autistic dude before Lucan I was very anti-social as I really saw no joy in the process of interacting with humans at all. For me all human society was somthing to be tollerated but I had no great love for anything to do with the people or the process. The process of helping me like accept and become part of human society that many doctors, family members, teachers and so many others struggled daily to teach me for 15 years was resolved in one night as I sat watching Lucan. I got the whole human thing since the idea of why would a person want to be part of human society was answered for me in this pilot episode in a context I understood, recognised and could apply in my life.

Kevin Brophy in his acting style made Lucan a simple man who sought to unselfishly help others in their struggle even as he struggled with his challenges. Lucan whose basic needs were few, whose ideals were simple, whose tastes were practical was a man I could finally understand living a life that I totally identified with. Lucan loved people not because, he always understood them or he felt all people were good but because, he knew it was batter to love than to hate. Lucan was used by bad people but had the strength to not let that most negative human experience turn him back to wild and feral ways of response. When Lucan did revert to his Wolfen natures it was always a moderated managed response to a situation that left him no alternative. Lucan taught me that getting hurt in human society is part of living in society that while unpleasant should never allow you to revert to base more feral and antisocial instincts I too always deal with being autistic.

Kevin Brophy's fine acting did much to show the inner struggle and conflict Lucan had living in human society while managing the inner feral drives that lived just below his calm surface. Lucan while far more social than I was at the time was still often a loner but, he managed to find joy in new situations and different people a trait I tried hard to master. Yes without having watched the pilot episode of Lucan so much of the progress I have made today I doubt would have happened as it explained so much and so completely changed me by opening my eyes to this world in a context I finally understood well enough to make what Lucan taught me work in my life. Before Lucan I was always listening to others and usually getting bad advice but after seeing the Lucan pilot I had my own context of how the human world worked set in a feral primal context I understood. After seeing Lucan I did honestly want to help people as he had in the show so I volunteered in my community which in turn gave me all the struggles Lucan suffered and from that I kept learning till eventually I became a success.

Oh I am still plenty weird, a loner and proudly always will be as reading this likely tells you but by most gauges of success I have done well something few ever beleived could happen in my life. I owe my success to my grandparents, family, doctors and many others but I owe much to the single act of watching Lucan because without the structure and context help I gained there none of the rest of the help I got would have been worth anything. Watching Lucan gave me the context of how and why one lives in human society a thing that is priceless if you do not have it within yourself hence for me the Lucan Show and Kevin Brophy's acting was important to me.

    Re: Favorite episodes of Lucan

My favorite episode of Lucan had to be the 90 minute Pilot that launched the show. Lucan a feral child raised by wolves in the wild found by hunters deep in the Minnisota Woods at age ten, brought to and raised at the University and the project he is part of has now become subject of a political storm. Lucan still at the University Research Center with his doctor and friend has always wanted to find his parents but was not considered ready yet for that challenge. His doctor friend and protector at the University was hit by a car. Now Lucan part Wolf part man left in the University with no protector risked being committed to a state institution if he stayed there. Lucan with the help and encouragement of his doctor friend leaves the institute and begins the journey to find his parents this is the core element of the show.

This pilot episode was the one that opened my eyes from the me centered world of my autism and spoke to me in the Wolf in the world of men context I totally understood. The whole raised by wolves thing hokey as it appeared I connected with and instantly upon watching this show socialization, anger management skills and other human reality rules doctors had been trying to get me to understand for ages started making sense in ways that gave me a structure I never had before. Over time using my new understanding human society started making sense and even being interesting in ways it never had. Before watching Lucan I was violently antisocial having no understanding or need for people at all. After watching this one episode it clicked, my antisocial behaviors did not evaporate over night by a long shot but my journey to tollerate, understand even like at least some people began the night I looked at this pilot Lucan episode.

Watching Lucan did not cure my high functioning autism, neither did it resolve all my issues. Watching Lucan especially this pilot episode did give me a context for understanding and loving myself which built my self esteem and taught me to tollerate people and their ways enough to lead to my being a success today.

    Re: Favorite episodes of Lucan

Hello there. I was looking for Lucan on dvd, without success so far! I have one dvd which I think is the first episode after the pilot where Lucan gets a job on a building site, I'm watching him being chased by three thugs on motorbikes as I type. I thoroughly enjoyed the series and am trying to find as many episodes as possible. Here in England there are still some people with fond memories of 'Super70s tv shows and I have managed to get Gemini Man, C.H.iP.'s has recently been released on dvd, first series only so far, Man from Atlantis, Fantastic Journey and am always on the look-out for such shows. Maybe it was the sunny climate or the colours but even now at forty there is nothing I like better than Rockford Files, Quincy, Ironside or even Columbo to sit down to.
