    My favorite Dragnet episodes

My favorite episode was Reason to Run. Randolph Mantooth played a NY run away kid who found work in the riding stable of Rod Cameron. Reed chased the young man and caught him. There had been some items and money stolen from the stable, which were later found at the home of a rich young woman. The kid and stable owner wanted to forget the whole incident, but Malloy and Reed arrested the girl and hopefully she got the help she needed.

I like the work of Jack Webb, especially Adam-12 because it dealt with real issues of the problems of a day to day life of a police officer in Los Angeles .Kent McCord and Martin Milner were perfect for the roles of officer Jim Reed and officer Pete Malloy. I enjoyed this show because you get a little bit of everthing from laughter to heartache and it was always something different every day. My favorite eposides are Elergy for a Pig - a documentury style show of a police officer who was killed in the line of duty. The episodes from the first four years were the best including the one about the little girl and her sister who were left home alone and Reed and Malloy were so upset about it and when Reed was grilled about killing a young teenager and the emotions he showed were so lifelike. Adam-12 is the greatest cop show that was ever made it was on of a kind. Jack Webb taking real cases from the Los Angeles police department and putting on tv was a true stroke of a genius.

    Re: My favorite Dragnet episodes

I've been an Adam 12 fan since 1968. This was the best produced and most realistic portrayal of "beat cop" police work before or since. From a technical stand-point, Jack Webb was an innovator. The concept of using three cameras and all their lighting requirements mounted on an independent rack on the actual vehicle came from his fertile mind. Actually, towing the vehicle in order to give the "car scenes" that realistic, real-time feel was another Jack Webb brainstorm. The industry standard was placing the vehicle on a low platform and towing it but the vehicle's wheels never touched the ground. There is, so much, more.

Forgive me. When it comes to Adam 12, I could go on forever. There are dozens of interesting facts regarding this show which paved the way for the "cinematography geniuses" of today. In fact, they are pale imitators who depend more on exaggerated stunts and headache inducing camera shots to mask the lack of substance in today's programs. I am a, relative, newcomer to the internet. Until now, I had no idea that my favourite program of all-time had such a legion of fans. It feels great to know I am not alone.
