    Memories of Sierra

I don't know why this show sticks in my head. I was in Junior High School when it aired and I think it was only on for one season. I can still hear the theme song. It goes something like... Sierra majesty, up to the sky. Sierra majesty, where eagles fly. You are my life to me, You are my home, I'll dum da de dumm, Dum dum da de. I remember singing it to myself on my way to class. I remember it was about rangers caring for a national park somewehre in the Sierras. One of the rangers was a widower. His wife had died while mountain climbing and there was some sort of question about whether he was responsible. But I recall other rangers did not want to climb with him because they had their doubts about his abilities. But one of the other main characters ended up in some predicament and had to rely on this ranger and putting his trust in the guy really helped him out. There was one episode where they took a bunch of physically challenged kids on a nature hike. That is the only story line I can remember. Oh please, does anyone else remember this show? Does anyone else remember the theme song? Or anything about the main characters?

    Re: Memories of Sierra

I'm amazed that I actually found a site that remembers the series! [Editor's note: We're truly trying to cover everything!] I'm 38 so when I watched this show I was only in the 4th grade, but I still remember the beautiful shots of the landscapes. I feel they'll never be another decade for TV like the Super70s. It's a shame. I was lucky enough to grow up at such a fun time, when TV wasn't so serious and kids could actually enjoy TV at night. Does anyone remember the hospital comedy "Temperature's Rising"!?

    Re: Memories of Sierra

I too remember the show "Sierra". I can't remember much about the program but It made an indelible impact on me. I have searched the internet to find a copy of the theme song but haven't found anything yet. I can't remember the words but I remember how much I liked the song; it seemed to connect with me for some reason. It's funny how some things make such a big impact on your life when you are young. I wish TV programming could go back to those great programs in the Super70s.

    Re: Memories of Sierra

I grew up in Ireland, and used to watch this programme on Saturday mornings on RTE - and loved it - it made me want to move to the Rockies. I finally achieved a dream some 15 years later when I went to Colorado and climbed Pikes Peak.
    Thanks Sierra!

    Re: Memories of Sierra

I thought I was going nuts about this programme 'cause no one else remembers it! I grew up in Ireland and am 39 but saw this programme in 1 channel land ( RTE 1). I used to love this show and wish I could get my hands on an episode or on the theme tune.

    Re: Memories of Sierra

WOW! I was looking everywhere for information on this show and this is the only thing that I could find. Very strange! I remember the show and am looking for the show and song that they played. There also was this old cantankerous bear that always used to get in trouble.

    Re: Memories of Sierra

I couldn't get enough of this one when it was on. The fact that my "hero" John Denver had written the theme (which stayed with me long after I had lost most memories of the series) made it a big deal, and as I recall I also couldn't get enough of the younger ranger, played by James G Richardson. I remember being terrified when he fell during a rescue and went from rescuer to second victim in a heartbeat!

The other reason I remember this series is it literally helped to shape my life. I wanted to BE them, just as when I watched Grizzly Adams, I wanted to BE him. Some 20 years later, I was splitting wood outside my wilderness lookout with a squirrel scrambling all over me and a yearling mule deer I'd patched up after a cougar attack looking on. I dropped a log on my foot -- OUCH -- and as I turned to that mule deer and grumbled "What are YOU laughing at? You think you could do better?" I suddenly realized that I'd made it, after all. And it was everything I'd dreamed it would be!

    Re: Memories of Sierra

I'm amazed about the number of Irish people writing in about the Sierra series.

Yeah you guessed it. I'm one more of them.

I remember watching in on rainy Sunday afternoons in Ireland and dreaming about the far away Rockies, the sunshine and California.

I would have done anything to get on a plane and go right there.

So I finally managed to get there in 2000 and was'nt disappointed. Yosemite is fantastic. I'd love to see an episode of Sierra again
