One of my favorite movies from The Wonderful World of Disney
was "Escape from Witch Mountain". I remember that the main characters were
orphans named Tia & Tony who possessed magical type powers like telekinesis
& telepathy. This movie had a sequel entitled "Return to Witch Mountain"
that aired later. I can't remember who played the characters of Tia and Tony,
but I can remember that Donald Pleasence (Dr. Loomis on the horror flick
Halloween) pretended to be their uncle. He pretended to be their uncle in order
to use them for their powers or something; I can't remember the entire plot.
I also loved The Shaggy Dog (1959), where a boy (played by Tommy Kirk)
changed back and forth between human form and the form of a shaggy sheep dog
because of a spell. The shenanigans were endless. How I loved that movie. The
one scene that made me laugh till I hurt was the one where Wilson Daniels (Fred
McMurray) sees a big shaggy sheep dog driving down the street in a convertible.
Too Funny, . . . even today.
The downside to The Wonderful World of
Disney meant facing the next day; Monday and back in school. But I remember all
of my classmates talking about the movies they saw the night before on Disney.
It made Monday an easier pill to swallow.
