    Memories of Wild Kingdom

"Wild Kingdom" was the best kid friendly animal show ever. As a kid growing up in the Super70s I have very fond memories of this show. It was educational and fun (which is no doubt why our parents let us stay up past bedtime to watch). I would love to purchase the complete set of shows for my 3 and a half year old son.

After more than an hour of Internet searches this site is the first to make mention of Wild Kingdom! This was one of my favorite TV shows when I was 4 years old. I remember distinctly, after breaking my nose on my swing, sitting back with a bag of ice on my face watching an episode. The show distracted me enough to take some of the pain away. It was all about exotic animals. That’s where I learned about those carnivorous flesh-eating plants with sharp teeth and about beavers building their dams. I learned about Lions, monkeys, giraffes, elephants and armadillos.

Now, I'm writing my autobiography and all I want to know is the name of the host! Doesn’t anybody remember this show? Does anybody remember the name of the host, a man with a great voice? Yes its true the host was no Crocodile Hunter filled with utter glee but he did speak well.

    Re: Memories of Wild Kingdom

One of my favorite episodes was well after Marlin Perkins had quit going out into the field. He did the narrating and playing with a chimp back in the studio while Jim did the life threatening animal wrestling in the field.

In this episode Jim had been sent out to find the illusive giant anaconda. It didn't take Jim long to find one, or did it find him. The snake wrapped itself around Jim and took him under several times. Mean while Marlin is saying “Looks like Jim might be in trouble” gee you think? He is now purple from nearly having the life squeezed out of him and the struggle goes on. Ol' Merlin back in the studio goes on with the details of an anaconda such as the length and weight they can reach as Jim goes under again. Some how Jim finally gets this beast out of the water and unwraps himself gasping for air with all of the strength drained out of him. Merlin goes on to say what a good job Jim has done. I was surprised Jim made it through that one alive. You didn't see Jim for a while after that. I bet any of you avid Wild Kingdom watchers remember this one too.
