    Favorite episodes of Barnaby Jones...

Barnaby Jones was, in my opinion, the best detective show on TV in the Super70s, followed closely by Hawaii Five-O, Cannon, and The Streets of San Francisco. My favorite episode of Barnaby Jones was actually a two-parter, "The Deadly Conspiracy," (09/17/75; 09/19/75). The first part aired on Cannon, and the conclusion on Barnaby Jones.

Re: Favorite episodes of Barnaby Jones...

I think one of my favorite episodes of the whole series was "The price of terror" with actors robert webber, john ritter, and marc singer. Singer played a killer named tully morgan who was skilled in karate and killed his victims that way. Another favorite of mine was "Terror On A Quiet Afternoon" Starring Dee Wallace-Stone and John De Lancie (Q on "STAR TREK: The Next Generation). De Lancie played a Crazed rich guy who was after Wallace-Stone's heart, constantly harrassing her and would not take no for an answer. It eventually escalated into violence killing his friend Curt Harper, played by actor Chris Mulkey. I had a great passion for this series because I loved the formula that it had: A victim at the beginning of the episode, another at the end of act two, and the villain was always dumb enough to try to kill Barnaby at the end of each episode.I only wish there were good shows like this one on primetime these days. I believe that that is what primetime needs today, and another show set in Hawaii.

The best episode of Barnaby Jones was when Gary Lockwood played an Insurance salesman named Jim. He was part of a conspiracy to have several of his insurance client torch their buildings periodically for the insurance money. Barnaby screams "JEDADIAH"!!! after Jedadiah explains he found an iron at the crime scence that appears to have blood on it; and when confronting Jim with his hunch while investigating at the scene, Jim says that is rust.

Re: Favorite episodes of Barnaby Jones...

Even though I was born in 1966, and was a little kid at that time, I think that The Barnaby Jones detective show was the best detective show ever. I wonder where I can buy the episodes of that show? The show is no longer in sindication anywhere.

Does anyone know where I can buy the episodes of the show? [Editor's note: Shows like Kojack and Columbo are on DVD so keep your fingers crossed, but no news as of March 2006.]

Re: Favorite episodes of Barnaby Jones...

Both my brother and I are fans of the show, dating back to the early '90s when it was aired late nights on local TV. Both of us agree that our favourite episode is the two-part "Nightmare in Hawaii" where J. R. and Barnaby shut down a marijuana growing and smuggling ring. If memory serves me right, the crooks conceal the wacky tabacky in pineapples, which they then smuggle off the island in a small ship. But the highlight of the episode is the scene where Barnaby confronts the ship's captain and offers to sell him, in Barnaby's words, "half a ton of high grade product. " So here's a 70 year old man trying to make a million dollar drug deal with someone he just met thirty seconds ago! Of course, the captain takes the bait, and Barnaby closes in - later, of course. He needs his sleep, after all. ;)

All in all, "Barnaby Jones" is a delight to watch, especially if you watch it in an ironic sense. And the theme music - classic! And Lee Merriwether - hubba hubba!
