Yes, Alias Smith & Jones basically copy-catted the classic film, "Butch
Cassidy & The Sundance Kid." However, it was a charming series with a sense
of humor, and proved how entertaining the buddy-show formula was for the general
public. Without this show, and others like it, there might never have been
Awesome80s buddy-shows on TV like Cagney & Lacey, etc. This show was also
one of the very last of the westerns on network TV, and didn"t take itself too
seriously, unlike the heavy moralizing of previous TV westerns. With the
attractive team of Pete Duel and Ben Murphy as the main characters, this was one
of the few westerns on TV in the seventies that could appeal to a female
audience.
