    Memories of Operation Petticoat

This show was fun. I liked the second season when there was a nearly complete cast change. A new Captain and executive officer came on board. The sub was painted pink (like in the movie) and there were 3 nurses who were up to any challenge. Mr. Bender, had skipped submarine school (thinking he would fail the class by not attending) but another officer named Bender did attend and somehow Mike Bender got assigned to the Sea Tiger. He was always referred to as the dopey one, but he was forced to assume command when the Captain was injured and had to have his spleen removed by a nurse. Each week provided hilarious tales, a crew member marries a native girl, the sub got stuck on the bottom, a Japanese flyer is saved and put in an iron lung made from a torpedo tube. The show was often touching and funny, it ended too soon.

    Re: Memories of Operation Petticoat

I was drawn in from day one by John Astin, whom I revered for his touching portrayal of Gomez Addams. As a TV-aholic, I had seen The Addams Family, but was unaware of the existence of a Petticoat movie. I remember howling with laughter at episode after episode, until one day they changed the cast, and it was never the same. I still say trading John Astin and Jamie Lee Curtis for Randolph Mantooth and Jo Ann Pflug isn't fair, no way, no how, not then, not now.
