I personally loved "Get Christy Love" as a small African-American female growing up in Minnesota. She was the first strong African-American female I had ever seen outside of my own family. She was single, well dressed, beyond beautiful and talked like I did. She was my first "hero" who looked like ME! I wanted to be a cop for a long time, but I got over that.
However, Christy Love was the first vision of a African-American woman of purpose I can recall seeing. Another thing Theresa Graves impressed upon me was being a woman of colour who represented beauty, I also remember seeing her on laugh-in. Hers was a role as an African-American couterpart to Goldie Hawn, but her presence could not be missed. I just wish I knew more about her life outside of show business. I'm sure she was an interesting person with many stories to tell.
