I was into my third year of teaching high school and
Lucas Tanner came on the air. The reason it made an impact for me was the fact that the show dealt with real issues of the day for teachers. I was so sorry to see it go off the air. Most of the other "teacher type" shows portrayed educators as baffoons. This series treated the characters as human beings who tried to make a difference in student's lives. Two shows stand out are great shows. The first was when I student needed
Lucas Tanner and he went to her home in the middle of the night to help. Lucas was looked upon with suspicion because he was a teacher. He said, "If I was a doctor, lawyer, or clergy person and visited a person at night, no one would have thought twice about the event. The other show was about a teacher who tried to keep a student from excelling in art because the teacher was jealous of the student's art talent which exceeded the teacher's skills. It was a wonderful lesson of life.
