    Favorite episodes of Marcus Welby

I watched Marcus Welby, M.D. diligently as a child. My favorite episode was "A Portrait of Debbie", starring Pamelyn Ferdin. I thought she did an incredible job! Although.....I never did exactly find out what she had wrong with her! :) I also remember an episode with Lindsay Wagner, who had some sort of kidney ailment, and an episode with Leif Garrett's younger sister (I can't recall her name) who played a deaf girl. The show always had good storylines and managed to find good medical topics to cover. All in all, a great 60/Super70s series, entertaining and educational -- I credit most of my early medical knowledge to this show. I wouldn't mind seeing some old episodes, if they ever came out on video.

My favorite episode of MARCUS WELBY, M.D., an oustandingly realistic and sensitive medical drama, was the two-parter entitled 'That Basic Moment' which featured Dr. Welby's daughter Sandy. A missionary abroad with her husband Ray, she returns home to await the birth of the couple's baby. But Sandy and Mark have unresolved issues from years ago when Mark's wife (Sandy's mother), Nancy, died. How father and daughter suffer at the recollections, and then both emerge stronger is a shining tribute to the human spirit!

My favorite episode was Solomon,s Choice, March 14 1972. It starred Randolph Mantooth (Alan) and Lee Purcell were expecting a baby and he wanted to marry and keep the baby or keep the baby himself. Jack Kelley played her father. ALan was heartbroken whe she refused to marry or keep the baby, instead opting to give her up for adoption. Great acting from some very young actors in this.

My favorite episode was "The Legacy" which starred Dolores Del Rio. Superb acting by all and also another guest star was Janet Blair. The best episode!!! I loved this series because because not only was it a good show it also starred my favorite actor, Robert Young and my favorite actress, Elena Verdugo. MW also had guest appearances by actors Teresa Graves, Sharon Gless, Joanna Cameron, Heather Menzies, Richard Thomas, and Arthur Hill (the medical lawyer).

[My favorite was an] episode had Kim Darby as a gal who had dementia, a skin rash, and an intolerence for alcohol. She accused Steve Kiley of being the father of her child. Does anyone know the name of that disease?

Re: Favorite episodes of Marcus Welby

My favorite is the episode where Peter Duel was attempting to commit suicide. Most times on T.V. shows, the characters always say the right thing, but in this episode Young doesn't know how to get Deuel from jumping off a roof and, in a very realistic statment, shouts in exasperation "What can I say to you?" It was an excellent moment in T.V.

[Editor's note: It is sadly ironic that it was indeed Peter Deuel, as he plays a Native American who has not met his family's expectations that he become a doctor. In real life, Peter Deuel was the son of a doctor and tragically committed suicide on December 31, 1971 at age 31. He was starring in Alias Smith and Jones at the time.]

To Jeanne: The episode you talk about is also one of my favorites. It was a two-parter called I've Promised You a Father and the disease that Kim Darby suffered from was called porferia (I am sure the spelling is incorrect.)

I remember the pilot episode. There were 3 storylines. One was extremely unusual and involved Peter Deuel as a patient suffering from Aphasia due to some tramatic accident. It disabled him from being able to write or speak. All he could do was utter the word "mother" in response to anything asked. It was a heart-breaking performance. Susan Strasberg played his wife.

One episode that always sticks in my mind was titled "I Can Hardly Tell You Apart." It starred Sally Field as identical twins. One twin is severely burned from an accident with a barbecue. It was a terrific look at the dramatic acting of Sally Field.

Re: Favorite episodes of Marcus Welby

The show that I remember the most starred Susan Clark. I think the title was "Hello Again". Susan played a young woman who was new to town and who went to Steve Kiley because she was ill - he told her she was dying. She wrote letters to everyone she knew telling them of the blessings they had brought to her life - and then she died. I do not remember anything else about the story - but I too loved this series. I was a young wife and mother and my husband worked many nights until midnight as a new pharmacist. These shows helped with the loneliness created by his absences.

Re: Favorite episodes of Marcus Welby

Marcus Welby, M. D. was one of my favorite TV shows growing up in the Super70s. I enjoyed every episode. An episode I still recall is one with a very young actress I believe her name was or is Lee Purcell. She started as an overweight teen who with the help of doctor Welby loses weight. She ends up becoming very promiscuous and contracts some type of venereal disease, I think herpes. As a teen in those days such topics were not openly discussed but it got the point across without over-loading the imagination and educating at the same time about the consequences of sex before marriage.
