    Memories of Petrocelli

Petrocelli is the nuts. Not even Diagnosis Murder matches the quality of Petrocelli. The multiple flashbacks did it for me, and the cameos from stars such as Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, William Shatner, and John Saxon. I don't have a favorite episode, but there is a few good lines I remember "I got riddm, but I don't got eyes in the back of my head", "My father is a good man" - Mark Hamill, "You gotta tell me the whole story" etc. Complete classic.

    Re: Memories of Petrocelli

Anthony J. Petrocelli was a great guy! Every week, my dad and I would tune in to watch Barry Newman take on a loser case for no fees (only in San Remo would a lawyer do that)and at the end of the episode say "Your honor, I would like to offer another version of what happened on that night..."and usually, my dad would be spouting off Petrocelli"s same version out loud as I watched perturbed and perplexed that Barry Newman and dad had figured it out while I was still convinced that the red-herring culprit shown at the beginning of the show was guilty! Albert Salmi was a great supporting actor as PI Pete Ritter, and as a 16-year old kid I was in love with Susan Howard! Tony Petrocelli drove that big, ugly blue Chevy truck with the camper top and every episode featured him screwing at least one city parking meter out of it"s fare! My favorite episode was "Mark of Cain" where boyhood friend Jonh Saxon surprises Tony with a box of "Mama " cannolis from Boston, where Barry (and his character) actually grew up. It has a very poignant ending, after John Saxon has been killed and Tony and Maggie drive off into the sunset mourning the loss of their friend. Lalo Schiffrin"s theme music is BEAUTIFUL! Along with "Harry O", Petrocelli gave the 74-76 TV seasons one hour each week of truly underrated and underappreciated acting and drama. Kudos, Barry Newman and thank you!

    Re: Memories of Petrocelli

Like a lot of people my age (31!), I remember watching Petrocelli as a kid with my Dad (what was my Mum doing?!). The thing that really burnt it into my young mind was the whole half assed/half finished house that Tony Petrocelli was attempting to build in the middle of the desert (as you do!).

When Tony wasn't building his house (which clearly wasn't very often) he would be working as a lawyer on seemlessly hopeless legal cases for individuals usually accused of murder. He had a hot wife, a good buddy by the name of Pete Ritter (an ex cop turned Private Dick!) and a penchant for a bottle of rootbeer.

Watching the programme recently, I'm amazed that it still stands up so well. Apart from seeing younger versions of famous Hollywood stars, I love the way the stories unfold (in fairness, they are a little formulaic) and the fact that the characters are believable (no rolling around on car bonnets firing two pistols here!).

Great show (did he ever finish the house?)

    Re: Memories of Petrocelli

As being a 47 years old man now, this tv serial is still one of the most favorable serials in my memory since Super70s. That rural area origined looking man (Barry Newman) was reflecting the typical humanist characters of all worlwide people. As to Maggie (Susan Howard), she was the ideal wife for such a ideal husband.

    Re: Memories of Petrocelli

I was a pre-teen during the "Petrocelli" run and don't have much of an opinion on the storyline. But seeing as how the series was filmed on location in my hometown's downtown (Tucson) I remember certain items, like his second-story office window above the Old Navajo Trading Post building (am I remembering correctly, Tucson old-timers?)- "Anthony J. Petrocelli - Attorney at Law". It may still be there; I don't know. I remember one of my neighbors hating Barry Newman because he went on Carson one night and referred to Tucson as a 'nice little cowtown'. My dad watched it, though, being a kindred spirit (Tucson attorney working downtown) and enjoyed it.
