I remember seeing three of the episodes of Billy starring
Steve Guttenberg back when I was much younger. The show was on in the Spring of
1979 and its time slot got moved around, so when it was cancelled I never knew
what happened to it. Plus, it kept getting preempted by seasonal stuff - like
Easter Bunny and Miss Teen pageants. I don't think it ever had a chance.
Steve Guttenberg was really funny in this show and I can remember seeing
him in Police Academy and thinking, "Wow, that's the guy from that Billy show,
this should be good. " Before this show I don't think he had ever been the lead
actor in anything. I remember being very impressed with him.
The episode
I remember the most is the one where Billy is supposed to be holding the ladder
for his dad but is off daydreaming and his dad falls. Then, at the hospital he
sees a nurse and decides to put on surgical scrubs to try to get a date with
her. He ends up being pulled in to consult on his Dad's case. I also remember an
episode where he told everybody that his Dad had no legs. At the time, I thought
it was hilarious. His Dad was pretty hard on him, but Billy seemed to make him
the butt of his personal fantasy jokes. It was a great show.
I can only
find information for about 7 episodes even though the TV encyclopedias list 13.
The other 6 were most likely never aired.
