    Loved the original Battlestar Galactica

Ah yes Battlestar Galactica. A small screen sci fi fix for those of us caught between star wars and the empire strikes back. Not as bad as most critics would have most people believe. Despite obvious similar connection to Star Wars (at least Lucas thought so) this stands on its own for better or worse. Personally for me this was the pinnacle of Super70s sci fi television, and wouldn't equaled until "V" and Star Trek:TNG some years later. Still kudos to glen A . Larson who along with Steven J Canell would create a lot of TV memories for kids in the late Super70s and early Awesome80s.

This was a great show, better than Star Trek. Lorne Greene, Richard Hatch and Dirk Benedict were some of the main stars. My favorite episode was a 2 parter called Greetings from Earth. A sleeper ship was found and the inhabitants seem to be from Terra. Excellent show in an excellent series.

Re: Loved the original Battlestar Galactica

Battlestar Galactica...what a show. I was only a kid when I would sit and watch what the future must surely be like. I watched each episode as if I were training for a grown up life in futuristic space. A robotic dog, even..how cool was that?

Yes, I had even planned how I would someday wear my hair with the drab colors of the brownish space uniforms. I was so excited. I looked forward to the day when I could pour on those skin-tight beige pants and look just as good as Apollo and Starbuck's girlfriends.

    Such high hopes...

Now, at age 34, I realize that those beige skin-tight pants don't look as good anymore. Maybe one day, I'll be able to take them off…

Re: Loved the original Battlestar Galactica

Why do they keep comparing BSG with Star Wars? BSG wasn't a light sabre and using the force the storyline had it's idea that mankind was originally from a different world. The idea that our ancestors who built Atlantis, the Pyramids the idea of constellations etc. Nothing like Star Wars. I felt it the idea was superior until the networks of course wanted to get rid of it despite having high ratings.

    Ah,Yes.This site is a real nostalgia-trip.

How can it be that a simple soundloop can bring back fond childhood memories? I mean that I still get the chivers when I hear that specific computermade noise the ceylons make.Zwoom Zwoom. Would KITT from "Knight Rider" have existed, in his form as we know him, without the ceylons- and not to forget Twiggy from "Buck Rogers"-??????

Re: Loved the original Battlestar Galactica

Batlestar G. has been compared to Star Wars because there was nothing else to compare it to (unless you count the 1976 movie "Logan's Run". ) Also, George Lucas and others involved behind the scenes of Star Wars ended up suing the producers of this show for ripping them off. The rip off is the Cylon attacks that happened in pretty much evey show. Their masks were similar to Darth vaders or even his storm troopers and theships are similar to the one's in Star Wars also. It's a little silly now but back then it was a big Hollywood ruckus!

After the show was cancelled in early '80 though it sort of returned in Sept. '80 anyway as "Galactica '80". In that show they make it to Earth finally, only to have the Cylon's catch up to them. I remember watching it but I don't know if it ever was resolved with an ending.

Re: Loved the original Battlestar Galactica

I couldn't have been any more than eight years old when I first saw BSG it filled the prime time slot on 7:30pm Friday night in my part of the world and filled my head with stuff that would feed my imagination for for decades.

It was a really special event! We had black and white TV for a long time and the family over the back was one of the first to get colour. There would be between 6 & 9 kids crowding around this colour TV - It was soooooo cool!! We'd spend the next week looking forward to the next episode while practicing to be cylons. Friends of mine wanted to swap their dad for Lorne!

And Steven J. and Glen A. If you guys ever happen to read this - Thanks Mate!!
