    Sierra theme song

I remember that song so well. I grew up in Ireland and I saw the show on BBC I think. The songs still haunts me now everytime I visit California.

    Re: Sierra theme song

I started hiking in the Sierras during the time of the show. I believe the lyrics are: "Sierra majesty, beneath the skies.
    Sierra wilderness, where eagles fly.
She is my Life to me, she is my Home.
Her Children comfort me, when I'm alone.

Sierra come with me, to meet my Friend,
Sierra learn with me, where Life began.
There is so much to Know, so much to See.
    Come share my Mountain home.
Come share my Life with me."

    Ah… memories.

    Re: Sierra theme song

I don't remember too much about the stories, I do sort of remember James Richardson who played Ranger Tim Cassidy. He was sadly killed by fall while mountain climbing a few years later. Ernest Thompson (screenwriter of On Golden Pond) played the other main star, Ranger Matt Harper. The song was written by John Denver but sung by Denny Brooks, according to information on one of the many Emergency sites. The characters John Gage and Roy DeSoto from Emergency were seen in a cross/over episode of Sierra. James Richardson went on to play paramedic Craig Brice in Emergency after Sierra.

Wow. . . . . I thought I was the only one who loved the theme song so much I remember it (but not the show really) after 30 years. OK, so who DID sing the theme song?!

    Re: Sierra theme song

I am amazed that other people remember this short-lived series and especially the theme song. I am also 38 and can remember singing the song at the bus stop in the 4th grade. There has to be a copy of it somewhere!

    Re: Sierra theme song

The recording on that German link is not very good quality (it's clipped at the beginning and end).  Also, I see no way to download it.

    Try this site:

    http://www.televisiontunes.com/Sierra.html

where you can download a better quality version as mp3.

Also, does anyone have definitive information about who really wrote the music?  The Wikipedia article on the Sierra TV show says John Denver, but some people are saying Lee Holdridge.  Or was it collaborative?  I'd really like to know the true story.

Anyone ever seen a piano arrangement?

    Re: Sierra theme song

Thanks everyone. I came across this thread while searching for some other music from the Super70s. Sierra is my music and John Denver wrote the lyrics. I also scored the episodes. The song was sung by Denny Brooks who was one of John's back up singers at the time. The series didn't last too long so we were unable to do a record at the time. You've all given me an idea. I'm going to get the sheet music out and available at a site called www.buysoundtrax.com that has a lot of my music. I'll see if they can get the sheet music up in the next few weeks. As for a recording, we are hunting the John Denver archives because I did do an instrumental of the theme in the Super70s. We are trying to get a CD re-issued of a lot of my John Denver instrumentals and I'd like to include Sierra.

I appreciate all the nice things you all said about the songSmile

    Dear Mr. Holdridge,

I'm very happy to hear that you are trying to make the sheet music for the Sierra theme song available.  Please keep us posted!  Also, it would be wonderful to have a high-quality recording available, especially with the lyrics as sung originally by Denny Brooks.  You can count on me to buy the cd if it ever becomes available.

    Thanks again,

    Hello Sierra TV Fans

Wow! Actually have the Music Writer posting here is great.

I have the Sheet Music for "Sierra" which was published in a song book called "Themes From Universal TV Shows". I bought this book, which was published in 1976, a long long time ago.

Amazon states it is unavailable, but, it could be on eBay!!!

    Thank you Lee.

There are about fifty thousand Emergency fans who are still enthralled with the memory of Sierra and your music and we are haunted by the magic that's been so long missed by us as fans. And this effect is from just the one crossover episode Sierra did with the series. Thank you so much for your future project. Please let us know when your CD is released. You have more fans out here than you can possibly know.

I "fixed" the German fansite version.  I used Goldwave to clone the ending and the beginning so it's no longer cut off. I think I like the German version better, since it's of a faster tempo and sounds more like Denny Brooks than the slowed down Super70's mp3 and the echo sustain the recording fan used there isn't present here to distort the true or muffle sharper consonant sounds.  I'd like to share the repair job I made yesterday.

I've waited thirty one years to hear this again, so believe me it was an absolute joy to be able to restore this a little closer to its already natural exquisite beauty. I only found this last night by accident. Thank you all, for this forum. You've ended a nagging childhood mystery that has haunted me across the decades. I remembered everything music on this show, vividly. And I felt the soft pain of its loss for years, for not being able to hear it once more.  A soundtrack from Sierra would sell very very well with John Denver and Emergency fans if it ever was to be released to the public. Lee? Did you note that?  :)

    All smiles. And peace. Patti
