Waylon Jennings - Ol' Waylon .gif) By Lindall
Waylon Jennings wasn't always an outlaw; he had a string of Nashville
hits in the 1960s. But he's best known for proving that a country singer
could break away from the Music City establishment and still find success.
Released in 1976, Ol' Waylon boasts the outlaw anthem
"Luckenbach, Texas (Back to the Basics of Love)" and the jukebox
favorite "Lucille," which holds up as a sob-in-yer-suds
sing-along. Though this album isn't the equal of Jennings's 1973 landmark Honky
Tonk Heroes, songs like "If You See Me Getting Smaller" and
"Till I Gain Control Again" are textbook examples of country
music done the right way. --Anders

"Yes, This is where I became aquainted with Waylon Jennings. When the song "Luckenback Texas" came out, it was like the best song that I had ever heard and I went right to the store and I bought this Ol' Waylon 8 track tape. This was the first of many Waylon Jennings 8 track tapes for me. Waylon is my all time favorite singer and has been since I was a teenager in the mid 70's. I am still buying his CD's today. My favorite is OL' WAYLON, Dreaming my Dreams, and Waylon LIve. Waylon was the greatest in my book, and still is." --Chuck Shumaker | "The ol'Waylon album was by far Walon Jennings greatest and I would all but kill to have it on cd. Why can't Nashville put out any genuine artists with individule sound as before. WE who appreciate it know a Merle from a Jerry Reed and so on. Today's music is to dance-oriented I personally want some good COUNTRY MUSIC." --tramp27 | "Waylon Jennings set the standard and laid the ground work for country music as we know it today, and alot of artist today owe alot of thanks to Waylon for making there road an easier one to travel down and do as they wish." --SGBryan2 |
