Basketball Cards of the Super70s

By Patrick Mondout

Welcome to our look at the basketball cards of the Super70s! We've got pages for all the major sets of the decade (and the Awesome80s too) as well as a complete checklists. Use the links on the left (under the green heading "Basketball Cards") to get started.

Basketball cards were were so unpopular compared to baseball cards that Topps produced one set in 1957-58 and then gave up on the idea for a decade. In 1968 Topps produced a test set of 22 cards and must of like the results. The produced the first of their modern, yearly sets for the 1969-70 season. While basketball cards still trailed baseball and football cards in popularity and sales, at least their were sets - which grew in size both in numbers of cards per set and the actual sizes of the cards - produced every season. At least until 1982. But that is a story for a different decade.

For those of you who collected hoops cards in the Super70s, enjoy your trip down memory lane! For everyone else, check out what the cards were like before "game-used inserts" and "chase cards" infested the hobby.
