The daughter of a midwestern businessman Jake VanDorn (George C. Scott) disappears on a trip to Los Angeles sponsored by the Calvinist church. Shattered when she turns up in a porno movie, the grieving father descends into the sordid realm of the hardcore sex industry determined to retrieve her. In the process of his search VanDorn befriends a sympathetic prostitute and the two discover they have more in common than they ever would have imagined.
